Sao Paulo GP 2026: Verstappen's the Favourite — But Interlagos Rain Could Wreck Every Price

Antonelli's already champion, so Interlagos is about the fight for second — and the rain that could scramble the lot. Verstappen's the favourite; here's where the value actually is.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli has already done the hard part. The 20-year-old wrapped up the 2026 drivers' title in Mexico — the youngest world champion in F1 history — so Sunday at Interlagos isn't about the crown. It's about everything underneath it, and that's where the betting interest lives.

Three drivers are covered by 16 points in the fight for second in the championship: Max Verstappen (261), Lewis Hamilton (259) and George Russell (250), with Charles Leclerc (245) still in range and four races to go. Mercedes, meanwhile, can clinch their first Constructors' title since 2020 this weekend. Lights out is Sunday 8 November, 17:00 GMT over 71 laps — a standard weekend, no sprint.

The market: Verstappen short, Antonelli the value

Verstappen is the clear favourite at around 5/4, and the form backs it — three wins in the last four, Mexico included. New champion Antonelli is next at roughly 9/4, then a gap to Leclerc (around 7/1) and Hamilton (8/1). For pole, Verstappen again heads the market near 6/4. Prices are moving daily this week, so take these as a guide and check the live line before you back anything.

The case against a short Verstappen is one word: Interlagos. It's one of the best overtaking tracks on the calendar — a DRS run up the hill into the Senna S, a second chance into the Descida do Lago — and it is notorious for rain. Books price a wet race at roughly even money and a safety car as a strong favourite (around 2/7). On a 4.3 km lap with 40 metres of elevation change, grip can turn within a single lap. That volatility is the whole story.

Where the value hides

  • Each-way on Antonelli (~9/4): the fresh champion with nothing to lose and race-winning pace — a cleaner play than a short favourite if the weather turns.
  • Top-two finish: Leclerc (around 2/1) and Hamilton (around 12/5) both go well here and are motivated by the P2 scrap. A podium bet sidesteps the Verstappen question entirely.
  • Driver head-to-head: Hamilton and Verstappen are split by two points, so a one-race H2H is tighter than the outright. The spicier angle is the Ferrari intra-team H2H after Hamilton and Leclerc collided in Mexico — the team will be watching this one closely.
  • Weather & safety car: a "rain in the race" plus "safety car to appear" combination fits Interlagos' history better than any outright.

Storylines to watch

There's a home debut to follow: F2 leader Rafael Camara is set to make his F1 bow for Haas at his home race (worth confirming on the final entry list before Sunday). And the 2027 silly season just cooled — Verstappen has committed to Red Bull through 2030, so the noise around his seat is, for now, settled.
